Yesterday, I wrote a post about a disturbing trend at John McCain/Sarah Palin campaign rallies. Crowd members have begun calling out "traitor" and "terrorist" and "kill him" as McCain and Palin would talk about rival Barack Obama. Perhaps more unsettling is the lack of any action by the McCain and Palin campaign to address and discourage the taunting. I had predicted it would continue - and get worse - unless the McCain and Palin campaign does something to stop it.
FOX News reporter Carl Cameron reported from a McCain rally this evening:
You’ll
hear the booing behind me. In recent days, when Barack Obama’s name has
been mentioned, it has gone from boos and hissing to actual chants and
calls of traitor, criminal, and even terrorist.
The McCain campaign says they don’t condone it, they don’t want to see it happen, but it’s happening more and more every day.
One can only infer, based on the lack of any action to discourage the outbursts, that the McCain campaign encourages this kind of sentiment being expressed at their rallies.
By the way, if some of you want to justify these outbursts in your comments, you better come stronger to the hoop than claiming they're equivalent to some Democrat stealing a McCain/Palin sign out of your front yard or getting hit by a pie in the face. Treason is a felony punishable by death, as is terrorism. Get real.
