The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize is awarded every year to the individual who's judged as having made the largest contribution to photography in Europe. The prize has been awarded since 1996, highlights new talent in the medium and represents one of the most prestigious prizes in photography. The Guardian has a lovely portfolio of nominees for the 2010 prize. Some favorites:
